Greg Smith:

Your Code Enforcement and Public Service Success Coach

Greg Smith is the founder of GMS Presentations and Training, a national training and consulting company dedicated to supporting the code enforcement and regulatory compliance profession. With more than twenty seven years in public service and over twenty years working directly in code enforcement and inspections at the municipal, county, and state levels, Greg brings real world experience, credibility, and practical insight to every course he delivers.

Greg has lived the job. He understands the daily realities faced by code enforcement officers, inspectors, supervisors, and department leaders. From difficult inspections and challenging conversations to policy implementation, officer safety concerns, and public scrutiny, his career has been shaped by hands on experience in the field. That experience is the foundation of GMS and the reason its training resonates with professionals across the country.

GMS Presentations and Training was created to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Greg’s courses are designed to be practical, engaging, and immediately applicable. As an International Code Council Preferred Education Provider, GMS delivers high quality education focused on housing inspections, code enforcement processes, officer safety, vacant building programs, professional development, and regulatory best practices. The goal is simple. Equip professionals with the knowledge, confidence, and tools they need to do their jobs effectively and defensibly.

Greg’s teaching style is people centered and purpose driven. A recent NBAK BankCode evaluation identifies his dominant personality as Nurturing, supported by Blueprint. This combination shows up clearly in his work. He is known for building rapport, coaching and mentoring professionals, and creating learning environments that are supportive while still grounded in structure, accountability, and consistency. Greg believes strong systems matter, but they must always be applied with fairness, integrity, and respect for the people involved.

Faith is central to Greg’s life and leadership. It shapes how he views service, professionalism, and responsibility. He believes every person has value and purpose, and that belief carries into how he teaches and interacts with others. Code enforcement professionals often encounter people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Greg emphasizes that approaching those moments with empathy, patience, and professionalism is not only effective, but essential to ethical enforcement.

Through GMS Presentations and Training, Greg focuses on education that builds confidence, strengthens communication, supports officer safety, and reinforces ethical and consistent enforcement practices. His courses are informed by experience, guided by values, and designed to support those who serve their communities every day.

Greg is honored to work with local governments, state agencies, national associations, and professionals across the country. GMS exists to support the code enforcement profession, elevate the work being done, and remind those in the field that what they do matters.
